Teaching and Research Institute (IEP) - Profile

Profile - Teaching and Research Center In view of the importance given to research and learning in the hospital area, the Hospital Sírio-Libanês through Prof. Daher Elias Cutait, set up the Study and Research Center (CEPE), in 1978.

From 1995 on, CEPE offered internships, specialization and extension courses, and in 1996, it set up the Ethics in Research Committee, with more than 100 studies underway. This was an important step that enabled the start up of the first Medical Residency programs and the organization of refresher courses, symposiums and lectures aimed at health area professionals, in 1997.

Ever since 1999, the community has also received the benefits of the Lectures for the Community Program, which has been used to spread information about issues linked to health and the quality of life.

These developments were the forerunners that enabled CEPE to cover a wider range of activities. In 2003, a new building was built, to international standards, to house training centers for surgical procedures and cardiovascular emergency simulations. Furthermore, it was also conceived to enable scientific research to be developed and events to be held, with the building of a convention center for events. Consequently, CEPE had its name changed to IEP - The Teaching and Research Institute. Together with the large area covering 5,800 square meters, on two floors, the modern IEP installations are today divided into: a 400-seater amphitheater; 6 auditoriums and rooms with 1,500 places; an audio and video center; telemedicine, library, and an academic department, as well as an animal room.

Teaching and Research Institute Mission:
To generate and spread knowledge and train professionals, whilst striving to contribute towards excellence in health care.

The IEP also includes other Training Centers that are equipped with modern infrastructure and houses courses and technological research into Video-assisted surgery, Microsurgery, Arthroscopy and Prostate Brachytherapy.

In 2005, the IEP was granted MEC (Ministry of Education and Culture) accreditation to give post-graduate lato sensu courses, a new educational area to put together with the courses already being offered to health professionals, many of which are in the nursing, gynecology, physiotherapy and video surgery areas, amongst others.

The IEP - Teaching and Research Institute also has five Training Centers that are fully equipped with the modern infrastructure for courses and technological research in surgery. These provide training courses in Video surgery, Microsurgery, Arthroscopy, Prostate Brachytherapy and Emergency Simulations.
