General Critical Unit

In view of its highly complex profile, there has been a General Critical Unit (CGU) at the Hospital Sírio-Libanês since 2005. This is intended to be used for treating seriously ill patients, who are, however, stable, or those who are considered to be at risk as a function of other associated illnesses. This unit fits in with the concept of Progressive Care adopted by the Hospital Sírio-Libanês, and consists of an area that is suitable for the hospitalization of patients who need medical and nursing surveillance, as well as the continuous monitoring of the vital signs, but whose clinical profile does not justify hospitalization in an ICU. This enables that the patient to receive the treatment necessary in the comfort of a hospitalization unit whilst remaining together with his or her family, as well as the rational use of resources.
The CGU is located on the 4th floor of Block C and consists of 24 rooms, with an intensive care, exclusive team of doctors, who work day and night shifts, as well as nurses and physiotherapists who are specialists in the treatment of seriously ill patients.
The CGU Nursing station works with a central bed monitoring system, which allows real time observation of the vital signs of patients hospitalized at the unit. In the CGU, the transfer of any patient to a unit which provides more or less complex treatment is evaluated to check the clinical condition and the level of dependence on care.
