As in all the other areas, Cardiology treatment at the Hospital Sírio-Libanês follows medical protocols drawn up in accordance with the best scientific evidence available, whilst respecting the individual characteristics of each patient.

Prevention

The HSL Prevention service focuses on illnesses which have the highest probability of impacting on people's quality of life. For this reason, the Hospital Sírio-Libanês Check-up is personalized. The detailed clinical history and the physical examination of the patient are analyzed and, based on this, a series of examinations are proposed.

At the Cardiology Diagnostics Center, the patient receives full-time specialized medical supervision. Furthermore, the doctor that sent the patient has total freedom to talk to the doctors at the Diagnostics Center.

The Hospital Sírio-Libanês's concern for preventing heart diseases has led it to invest in an Anti-Smoking Program, with a specialized Clinic, which has trained medical teams in companies, with the purpose of reducing one of the main risk factors of heart disease. The Smoker's Clinic is also open to patients who want to stop smoking, and have been sent by their own doctors.

Thoracic Pain Unit

The Hospital Sírio-Libanês Emergency Unit provides everything that is important for heart patients: speed, efficiency and good care.

When the patient arrives at the HSL Emergency Unit, he or she is immediately evaluated. If he or she presents thoracic pain or any other symptom which is suggestive of heart disease, the patient is immediately sent for medical treatment and subjected to the first examinations (an electrocardiogram and laboratory examinations), in accordance with the Hospital Sírio-Libanês treatment protocols.

Whenever necessary, the patient is taken to the Diagnostics Center and given decisive complementary examinations (X-rays, ergometric tests, echocardiogram, cintilography and cardiac catheterism), which may confirm or eliminate any suspicion of heart problems.

During the entire stay in the Emergency Unit, the patient is continuously being watched and monitored, until he or she is released or sent for any of the other excellent services at the hospital.

If heart disease is confirmed, the patient is taken to the Critical Cardiology Unit, where a specialized team and the necessary structure will be ready to receive him or her and to provide the best possible treatment. Depending on the patient's situation, he or she may be taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
