History

Humanism, pioneering work and excellence are the three lights that have guided the activities of the Hospital Sírio-Libanês for 85 years. The concept first arose in 1921, from an idea of a group of first-generation Syrian and Lebanese immigrant women who wished to provide quality medical assistance in an establishment which matched the importance of the city of São Paulo.

Work began in 1931, when the Foundation Stone was laid. This was the start of the first building of the Hospital Sírio-Libanês which was completed in 1940. Three years later, it was occupied by the Cadet Preparatory School and was returned to the Association in 1965. The Women's Benevolent Association - Hospital Sírio-Libanês, which occupies an area of 17,000 square meters, has 20 employees and 35 beds. It was opened on 15 August 1965, when the first surgical procedure was performed.

Under the clinical direction of Dr. Daher Cutait and the leadership of Violeta Basílio Jafet, who used to chair the Women's Benevolent Association, the Hospital Sírio-Libanês has achieved much of importance:
