Hospital Bills

Daily Rates

  • Start at the time of admittance to the hospital and end at 11:00 am.
  • The grace period for the patient and his or her companion will extend until noon.

Medical Fees
  • These are not included in the hospital bill. They must be dealt with in advance and directly with the doctor.
  • The fees are set and charged by the professional involved and their assistants. The Hospital is not involved

Telephone Use

  • Only local calls to terrestrial telephones will not be charged for. Long distance calls and calls to mobile phones will be included in the hospital bill.

Private Patients

  • Whenever necessary, it will be necessary to make a deposit to cover expenses incurred.
  • Companions' meals will be included in the hospital bill and paid for on discharge.
  • Up-to-date hospital bill statements, for monitoring and checking purposes, can be requested at any time from the Nurses Station on your floor or by keying 'Hospital Bill' using the telephone in your room.

Health Plan Patients

  • Find out in advance about the cover provided by your health plan and its limitations, both for direct cover and for reimbursements.
  • Expenses that are not covered by the health plan (orthosis, prostheses, examinations etc.) will be included in the hospital bill, and charged directly to the patient or the person responsible
  • Check if your health plan includes companions' meals. If they are not included, they will be charged for separately.
  • Up-to-date hospital bill statements, for monitoring and checking purposes, can be requested at any time from the Nurses Station on your floor or by keying 'Conta Hospitalar' ('Hospital Bill') using the telephone in your room.

Discharge

  • After the doctor has signed the hospital discharge document, the patient and companion must wait in the room, until they are contacted by the Bill Closing Service, to settle the hospital bill at the Central Payment Office.
  • The bill closing procedure can take a few moments. This is why it is more comfortable to wait in the room. Arriving at the Payment Office too soon means that it will be necessary to wait.
  • During the time spent waiting in the room, the Nursing Service will, if necessary, apply dressings and give medicines, hand over any examination results that are ready, and give final instructions to the patients and companions.
  • An additional daily rate will not be charged in the event that the stay goes past noon, due to the bill-closing period.
  • Once the bill has been paid, the discharge confirmation must be handed in at the Nurses Station on the floor, or to reception on the ground floor
