The continuous monitoring (through images and graphs) of brainwaves (video-EEG) is a very important neurodiagnostic procedure for resolving diagnoses. The Hospital Sírio-Libanês service offers the only 64-channel machine in the country.
There are two main types of Video-EEG: invasive and non-invasive. The non-invasive method, which works with electrodes applied exclusively to the scalp, is used in 90% of cases, and the invasive method (10% of cases - more complex types of epilepsy) works with special intracranial electrodes (subdural, epidural and oval foramen electrodes) or intracerebral (deep electrodes).
